I love ice creams!…well who doesn’t 😛 There is something about this cold, rich and sweet dessert which always satiates my sweet cravings. Its spring-time and I thought it would be great to find an ice-cream recipe which is healthy and yummy at the same time! Because care for our health we must 😛 so I am always on a look-out for healthier versions for my favorite foods. When I chance upon them I promptly help you all out with my finds 😉
With the intention of furthering my love for ice-cream and also with the intention for finding a healthier ice-cream, I logged on to Pinterest which is full of ideas and healthy recipes! I do not own an ice-cream churn, I did not have time to keep on constantly churning the ice-cream manually at regular intervals so it was decided…my quest would be for a No-churn, no-sugar healthy ice-cream (preferably in chocolate flavour :P) too much to ask for I thought….but voila…there it was…a recipe for NO CHURN CHOCOLATE-BANANA PEANUT BUTTER ICE-CREAM WITH NO ADDED SUGAR 😀 (a very lengthy name for a short recipe)
This recipe seemed extremely easy, not very time consuming and required basic ingredients available in your everyday pantry. So I decided to give it a try on a lazy weekend noon when I had nothing much to do and my tub of ice-cream was over 😛 . The ice-cream is more like a soft mousse, it does not hold the consistency of the usual churned ice-cream. The flavors however are extremely fresh. This was my first time making such an ice-cream at home so I made quite some errors here (even a simple recipe can be difficult for me sometimes 😦 ) however I have highlighted those errors here and I will also give you a way out.
This recipe originally involved 4 ingredients, Peanut Butter, Banana, Chocolate and Milk. You basically had to freeze bananas and then blend all the ingredients together and let it freeze 🙂 . That was it.
However, this is what I experienced, the Banana flavor was a bit too strong and the chocolate somehow left a powdery taste to the mixture. So, it was time to modify….to curb the overpowering banana I suggest you add a splash of vanilla essence to the mixture with a teaspoon of chocolate powder. Also, to avoid a granular residue of the chocolate chips, I would suggest do not blend them. Just fold them in for a better taste!
Here’s the entire recipe!
2 frozen bananas chopped
½ cup peanut butter plain
½ cup milk
1 tablespoon drinking chocolate powder
¼ teaspoon vanilla essence
1 cup chocolate chips or mixed nuts or trail mix
Chop and freeze bananas for at least one hour.
In a blender add the chopped bananas, peanut butter, milk, drinking chocolate powder and vanilla essence. Blend till the mixture is smooth.
Fold in the assortments of choice (chocolate chips or mixed nuts or trail mix)
Freeze for another hour and serve 😀
Vegan – Switch the milk for almond or soy milk for a vegan option
Change the flavors – Exclude the peanut butter and drinking chocolate for plain vanilla flavored ice-cream
Add a cup of your favourite fruits and berries to add on the flavour (exclude the chocolate here as it won’t blend well with the citrus fruits)
You can prep this a night before for your weekend binge, or like me…make this if your ice-cream is over and you need something to binge on on a weekend but don’t want to go to the store 😛 Be sure to let me know how you guys liked it 😀
